What is Dandruff?

Dandruff occurs commonly when dry skin flakes on the scalp. It can make the scalp itchy. It is a common problem but sometimes it seems complicated. Its mild condition of it can be solved through common shampoo. If it doesn’t work then medication may help.

 What are the Symptoms of Dandruff?

 

Dandruff sometimes embraces and seems complicated to treat. There are many Symptoms of Dandruff.

  • The scalp can be itchy.
  • Oily and dry flake on the scalp
  • Yellowish bumps appear along the hairline.
  • Dry skin can flake on the scalp, shoulders, hair, eyebrow, and beard.

 What are the Causes of Dandruff?

Mostly men are more affected by it than women. There are some causes of Dandruff. These are given below.

  • Can be caused due to oily skin.
  • It may become sensitive due to hair care products.
  • A presence of the yeast-like fungus that feeds oil from the scalp.
  • It can occur in winter due to dry skin.
  • It is possible may be due to age.
  • Having a weak immune system.
  • May be skin disorders such as rosacea, and psoriasis.
  • Might be caused due to stress

 What are the Preventions of Dandruff?

There are some preventions which can be helpful to get rid of it.

  • If having an oily scalp then should use daily shampoo.
  • Scalp massage can be prevented dandruff.
  • Reducing hair products may be helpful.
  • Recommended visiting the doctor because it can be severe if not treated well. It is possible to feel embraced about it in the public. Sometimes it can be losing confidence.

What are the Treatments of Dandruff?

Dandruff doesn't need any long-term treatment.

If facing itching and irritation from any product then frequently stop using it. And if any allergy develops such as rash, breathing problem, or hives, recommended visiting the doctor. 

Some dandruff shampoos are recommended according to the medication they contain.

  • Pyrithione zinc shampoo such as Head & shoulder, Derma Zinc, etc. These types of shampoos contain antibacterial and antifungal agents like Zinc Pyrithione. 
  • Tar-based shampoo such as the Scalp 18 coal tar shampoo, Neutrogena T/ gel, etc. This type of shampoo slows down the process of flakes of dry skin on the scalp. If having light-colored hair can cause discoloration of hair. It can also make the scalp sensitive to sunlight.
  • Salicylic acid such as BakerP&S, Jason Dandruff Relief Treatment shampoo, etc. These products help eliminate flakes.
  • Selenium sulfide shampoo such as Intensive, Head & Shoulder, Season blue, etc. These types of products contain the antifungal agent. It is necessary to rinse out well after shampooing because it can cause discoloration of hair and scalp.

  • Ketoconazole such as Nizoral Anti- dandruff Shampoo etc. It helps to kill the fungi that cause dandruff on the scalp. 
  • Fluocinolone such as Derma smooth/ FS, Capex, etc. These products contain corticosteroids. It works against irritation or itching.

 

There are also recommended home remedies that can decrease dandruff. 

 

  • It is necessary to limit hair styling products. Because it makes the scalp oily.
  • Sunlight may prove good for controlling dandruff. But should be careful about it because exposure to ultraviolet light sometimes makes the skin sensitive and increase the risk of skin cancer. Always apply sunscreen on the face and body before going outdoor.
  • Should use healthy diet such as Zinc, B vitamin. It can reduce dandruff.
  • Stress should be controlled. Because it affects overall health. It can create dandruff and show worsened symptoms. 
  • Should use those products which suit your scalp and hair. And which reduces dandruff.
