Scalp Acne

 Sculp acne is actually common in people and it can be prevented by a few adjustments to hairs routine.

What is Scalp Acne?

Sculp Acne in which pimples and breakouts appear on the scalp. It is possible to say that acne affects emotionally and because of it sometimes people feel embarrassed and which leads them to depression.

What are the Types of Sculp Acne?

There are the following types of Acne and Pimples. Which can appear on the Sculp. There are the following types of Acne.
  • Mild
  • Moderate
  • Severe ( There are severe forms of acne such as Acne conglobata  and Acne Fulminans. They both can affect the scalp.)

The pimples can appear in these types.
  • Blackheads which is known as open comedones.
  • Whiteheads which is known as closed comedones.
  • Papules can be inflamed bumps.
  • Pustules and bumps can be filled with pus.
  • Nodules, some pimples can be painful which are appears at deep skin.
  • It can be of different types.

What are the Causes of Sculp Acne?


Acne and breakouts happen on the scalp because of these four reasons. 

  • Production of sebum or oil increased on the scalp.
  • Due to the dirt and dead skin cells in hair follicles.
  • May be due to inflammation happening in hair follicles because of blockage of hair follicles.
  • an excessive amount of acne bacteria.
  • There are many oil glands and hair follicles on the scalp. If these follicles and pores are blocked due to the dirt and excessive oil then acne becomes appears. 
  • Sometimes acne is also caused by different hairsprays, shampoo, and styling gels. These hair products have their own medical name "Acne Cosmetica". All these can clog the follicles and pores because they leave residues on the scalp.
  • May be caused due to incomplete washing of the scalp and because of it, the pores are blocked.
  • It can appear due to sweating.
  • In adults, it may be caused due to hormones. Some hormones can be caused acne such as the Androgen hormone. Testosterone makes oil in the body.
  • Can be caused due to genetics. 

What are the Symptoms of Sculp Acne? 


There are the following symptoms of Sculp Acne.
  • Small bumps appear back of the neck and on the forehead.
  • These tiny bumps can be felt but not able to see.
  • Tiny bumps appear together that can be seen.
  • Whiteheads can happen on the scalp and hairline.
  • These bumps sometimes can be painful.
  • There can be some cysts that lie with no head deeply under the skin.
  • Acne doesn't make an itchy scalp if feeling this symptom then might be another skin problem such as Psoriasis. Therefore, should be careful.


What are Preventions for Sculp Acne?


There are some preventions that can be prevented Sculp Acne. 

  • Should wash the hair properly when feels like oil on the scalp.
  •  Should wash hair completely after every workout.
  • Avoid some hair products such as shampoo, hairsprays, and gels, which are not good for the scalp.
  • Always trying to use natural hair products.

What are Treatments of Sculp Acne?

There are some treatments that are proving beneficial for Scalp Acne. But always recommended to visit a dermatologist for better hair care products for the skin.
  • If the acne is caused by Shampoo, hairsprays, and gels then the acne will go away on its own when stop using them. It can take a time period for improvement like six weeks or maybe more. It is necessary to change hair products and routines.
  • The hair care products should be oil-free, non-comedogenic, Anti-acnegenic, and Won't clog- pores.
  • Should properly clean the hairs and keep the scalp dirt, oil, and sweat-free. It might be helpful to get rid of acne.
  • It is necessary to make sure the rinsing of extra conditioner and shampoo. Because most acne is caused due to improper rinsing of shampoo and conditioner.
  • It is important to make sure that wash everything that touches the head because it can be a reason for scalp acne. Such as bed sheets, hats, headscarfs, headbands, visors, and pillowcases. Therefore, should be careful about all these products. Always properly wash before use. 
  • If the Sculp Acne is not caused by these products then might be another reason which is caused acne. Maybe these treatments are helpful for you.
  • Salicyclic acid shampoo is commonly used in skincare products for preventing acne. It is useful for clearing dead skin cells and it breaks the bond between them.
  • Glycolic acid is useful to clean dead skin cells, acne bacteria, and sebum from the Sculp.
  • Cyclopirox is useful against skin infections and often it is added to some antidandruff shampoos.
  • The sulfur shampoo also proves useful for it.
  • Antibiotics might work against Sculp acne.
  • Photodynamic therapy may prove benefacial.
