What are tonsils?
Tonsils are
defined as the swelling of tonsils in the mouth. It is also named tonsillitis.
It occurs at the end of the mouth and back of the mouth or the top of the throat.

They help
bacteria to enter and filter out. An infection or bacteria can cause tonsils in the mouth. This infection can be seen in different parts of the mouth. One infection
is called pharyngitis.
They are
common in children more than in adults.
What are the symptoms of tonsils?
There are a few symptoms that can cause by tonsils. If you found these symptoms in you
or your child then you need to contact the doctor and take proper medical
care.
There are a few common symptoms:
- Swallowing occurs
- Pain in ears
- Light or high fever with chills
- Headache also occur
- Sore in throat
- Tenderness of the jaw
- Tenderness of the throat
Other
symptoms that may also occur due to tonsils:
- Breathing problem
- Problem in drinking or eating
You need
early treatment of tonsils if you find these symptoms:
- Tonsils may be red or may be white spots on them
- Lymph nodes on the jaw or neck may be swollen or feel pain when something touches them.
What is the treatment for tonsils?
If you have
swollen tonsils then you do not need to treat them because they do not cause pain
or not cause serious problems. Your doctor does not give you any type of
antibiotics because it is not serious. But you can ask him for a checkup later.
If your test
shows strep, then your doctor give you antibiotics. It is important to take
antibiotics that have been provided by your doctor. If you feel better then
again go for a checkup. If you don’t do this your infection may return. Therefore,
it is important to take all antibiotics.
There are the following tips that may feel better.
- Drink cold-drinks
- Fruit frozen bars
- Drink more fluids
- Gargle with warm salt water
- Take over the medicines
What are the possible complications?
There are the following possible complication which occurs during tonsils:
- Abscess the area around the tonsils
- Kidney disease caused by strep
- Rheumatic fever
- Heart problems
- Excess drooling in a young child
- Fever
- Pus in the back throat
- Red rash that feels the roughness
- Breathing problems
- Swollen problems
- Swelling in the lymph glands in the back
This is
treated by proper treatment or antibiotics on the advice of your doctor.
